Jordan signs Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, marking milestone in national tobacco control strategy.

According to a recent report by the Jordan Times, Jordan has signed the Protocol to Eliminate Illicit Trade in Tobacco Products, aimed at strengthening cooperation between countries, promoting information exchange, and implementing effective measures to prevent illicit tobacco trade.

Jordan's Minister of Health, Firas Hawari, stated that this marks a significant milestone achieved in the National Action Plan for the years 2024-2026. This plan is a part of the National Tobacco Control Strategy for the years 2024-2030.

Based on Article 15 of the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, Jordan is one of the earliest countries to join the convention. This article discusses the threat posed by illicit trade and the measures countries must take to prevent such trade.

The memorandum signed by Jordan will take effect on October 23rd.
