JTI Expands Sales of Ploom X Advanced and Evo
JTI to expand sales of "Ploom X Advanced" and "Evo" to retailers in Glasgow and Sheffield, marking first outlets outside London.

According to a report by Better Retailing on June 3rd, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has publicly confirmed the expansion of selling their heat-not-burn tobacco devices "Ploom X Advanced" and "Evo" cigarettes to retailers in Glasgow and Sheffield. This marks the first time they are being sold through channels outside of London.

The "Ploom X Advanced" was first released in September 2023 at various convenience retailers and retail outlets across the UK. This year, it was awarded the title of the 2024 Heated Tobacco Product Award winner.

According to local suppliers, sales of "Ploom" have nearly doubled since last year, meanwhile, the market value of the heated tobacco category in the traditional retail sector has reached £1.2 billion, with an annual growth rate of 8.9%. Additionally, the company has also launched wholesale promotions for "Ploom" and "Evo," providing customized PoS support to complement its expansion efforts.

The company's Marketing Director in the UK, Mark McGuinness, stated that

Ploom has experienced significant growth in the past 12 months, and we have ambitious plans to expand this momentum to independent convenience channels outside of London by 2024. It is estimated that by 2027, as more consumers seek tobacco heating devices that offer a similar yet different experience to traditional smoking without combustion, the market value of the heated tobacco category will reach £400 million. We look forward to working closely with retailers in Sheffield and Glasgow to educate them about the opportunities related to this popular product category, and hope they can benefit from this thriving market.

South Korea Vape Strategies Diverge as BAT Reconsiders Exit and PMI Takes VEEV to About 14,000 Stores
BAT Rothmans says it previously considered exiting South Korea's vaping market because of competitive pressure from unregulated products, but is now reassessing conditions following changes to the country's nicotine regulatory framework. Vuse and other BAT vaping products remain available through existing distribution channels. The statement followed a South Korean media report that interpreted BAT's broader withdrawal from selected Vapour markets as a full exit from South Korea. Meanwhile, Philip Morris International launched VEEV inPRIME in the country in June and began expanding distribution to around 14,000 convenience stores and other retail channels in July. The contrasting moves highlight differing investment strategies as South Korea's regulated vaping market evolves.
