Kent County Trade Standards Department Seizes Over 14,500 E-cigarettes

Kent Trading Standards branch has seized over 14,500 illegal e-cigarettes in recent months, with a surge in Tunbridge Wells.

According to a report by BBC News on June 27th, a branch of the trading standards department in Kent County, England has seized over 14,500 e-cigarettes in the span of six months.

These items were confiscated during over 650 compliance checks conducted by the e-cigarette regulation team on retailers throughout the county.

Kent County Council reported that nearly 500 illegal e-cigarettes were seized in just one week in the city of Sanit.

In 2023, Kent Port seized nearly 500,000 illegal e-cigarettes, which is approximately 10 times the number of legal e-cigarettes.

On Thursday (the 27th), the city council stated that the e-cigarette compliance team, supported by the Kent police, participated in a multi-agency cooperation day event held in Tunbridge Wells.

On the day of the operation, authorities seized 512 packs of cigarettes, 6.6 kilograms of hand-rolled tobacco, and 99 cans of nicotine pouches.

A spokesperson for the city council stated that.

The e-cigarette compliance team is not just visiting news agencies; the crisis of living costs has led other businesses to turn to e-cigarettes, seeing it as a quick way to succeed. The team found them in the most unexpected places.

Some requirements for e-cigarettes include a maximum container capacity of 2 milliliters, a nicotine concentration in the e-liquid not exceeding 20 milligrams per milliliter, and the exclusion of ingredients such as colorants, caffeine, and taurine. All e-cigarettes and e-cigarette liquids must also undergo notification and publication by the Drugs and Health Products Regulatory Committee before being marketed.
