Kyeonggi Province to Conduct Joint Inspections of Smoking Bans
Liheon City, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea will conduct a "No Smoking Area Joint Guidance Inspection" for public facilities by November 22.

According to a report on n.news.naver on October 14th, the city of Icheon in Gyeonggi Province, South Korea, announced that they will conduct a "Concentrated Joint Guidance Inspection for Smoke-Free Areas" for public facilities before the 22nd of next month. This inspection operation will be jointly carried out by relevant government officials, smoking cessation counselors, enforcement officers, smoking prevention instructors, and consumer food safety inspectors.

According to reports, the inspection team will conduct concentrated day and night law enforcement inspections on easily-smoking places within the region, such as automatic cigarette vending machines, restaurants designated as non-smoking areas, internet cafes, kindergartens and nurseries within 30 meters, as well as locations with frequent smoking complaints. Key inspection items include: whether non-smoking area signs or stickers are posted, if the standards for smoking rooms in facilities are met, and smoking behavior within non-smoking areas.

The municipal government stated that through this joint inspection, smoking behavior (including e-cigarettes) in designated non-smoking areas will be subject to a fine of less than 100,000 Korean won (about 80 US dollars). In addition, for violations of the duties defined in non-smoking areas, corrective orders will also be issued and fines will be imposed.
