Malaysia: Ban on Funding for Tobacco, E-Cigarette, Alcohol in Sports Events
Malaysian Youth and Sports Ministry announces funding ban for tobacco, e-cigarette, and alcohol involvement in sports events.

According to a report by Malaymail on July 10, the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) announced that funding through the Sports Matching Grant (GPS) or Community Sports Fund (DSK) will not be approved if there is involvement by tobacco companies, e-cigarettes, and alcohol. This decision was made in accordance with revisions to the Rules of Safe Sports.

The department minister Hannah Yeoh emphasized that if it is discovered that these companies are involved after approval, the related activities will also be canceled.

The minister, following the launch ceremony of an anti-smoking campaign organized jointly with Cengild GI Medical Centre, the Malaysian Anti-Smoking Committee, the Malaysian National Cancer Society, and the Ministry of Health, stated that...

We will never allocate funds for events that involve sponsorship or use of these products (tobacco, e-cigarettes, and alcohol). As owners of the sports stadium company, we also enforce the same ban.

In February of this year, KBS announced that they would take proactive measures by improving the "Safety in Sports Regulations" after their report on a sports event sponsored by an e-cigarette company went viral on social media.
