Peru Bans E-Cigarettes in Public Places, Introduces New Regulations
Peruvian Congress passed Law No. 32159 to control tobacco, nicotine, and e-cigarette consumption, protecting public health and life.

The Congress of the Republic of Peru has issued Law No. 32159, aimed at implementing a series of measures to "control the consumption of tobacco products, nicotine or their substitutes, to protect life and health." The law amends previous regulations and for the first time regulates e-cigarettes, according to a report by Panamericana Televisión on November 12.

 

This law stipulates that smoking or using e-cigarettes is prohibited in health centers, educational institutions, government offices, workplaces, enclosed public spaces, and all forms of transportation.

 

The law also prohibits all tobacco products advertising, promotion, and sponsorship, including those products with international reach.

 

Ultimately, the law stipulates that the Ministry of Health, local governments, the National Competition and Intellectual Property Protection Institute (Indecopi), and relevant associations from various sectors of society are responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the new law according to their respective duties.
