Poland to Consider Law Banning Sale of E-Cigarettes to Minors

Polish Ministry of Health plans to ban sales of non-nicotine e-cigarettes to minors, including online purchases and vending machines.

According to an October 7 report by Rynekzdrowia, the Polish cabinet will be reviewing a significant legislative proposal this Thursday (10th) banning the sale of nicotine-free e-cigarette products to individuals under the age of 18, Health Minister Izabela Leszczyna announced. This includes both disposable and reusable products.

Before, minors were only prohibited from purchasing e-cigarettes containing nicotine.

During an interview with TVN24, the minister emphasized that the new law will also prohibit the purchase of e-cigarettes from vending machines and online platforms. In addition, it will align with another law aimed at implementing EU directives that ban the addition of flavors to new tobacco products, specifically referring to flavored tobacco used in heated tobacco devices. The draft of this law was submitted for negotiation in mid-May this year. Flavored new tobacco products make up about 80% of the market for new tobacco products.

Furthermore, the Polish government is also studying the possibility of increasing taxes on cigarettes, tobacco products, e-cigarette liquids, and new tobacco products.
