Russian Court Sentences Yaroslavl Resident for Illegal Tobacco Sales

A man in Yaroslavl, Russia convicted of selling illegal tobacco products worth over 13 million rubles.

According to Lenta, the court in Klintsovsky city of Bryansk Oblast, Russia, has sentenced a resident of Yaroslavl for selling illegal tobacco products worth over 13 million rubles.

According to the department, in August 2018, a resident of Yaroslavl transported 180,500 packs of unmarked tobacco products from Belarus, with a total value of at least 13.6 million rubles. The products were not certified and did not have accompanying documents. Police discovered this criminal activity during a search of the vehicle.

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to one year and ten days of imprisonment based on Article 171.1 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code ("Production, Acquisition, Storage, Transportation, or Sale of Goods and Products without Labels"), with a one-year probationary period and a fine of 100,000 rubles. The defendant admitted guilt.
