2Firsts, November 21, 2025 — According to The Star, Selangor is currently drafting a policy paper that outlines its regulatory direction for electronic cigarette products, including the possibility of gradually prohibiting vape use.

Selangor State Public Health and Environment Committee chairman Jamaliah Jamaluddin said the policy will be formulated comprehensively and in accordance with the Tobacco Product Control Act for Public Health 2023 (Act 852).

“Our policies will take into account current market realities, public health impacts, and the need to strengthen enforcement through cooperation between state agencies, local authorities, and relevant federal agencies,” she said during the Selangor state assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri in Shah Alam.

She said this in response to Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee, who asked whether Selangor could conduct a campaign to prohibit vape use.

Jamaliah added that engagement sessions had been held with the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) and local councils to discuss implementation measures for such a campaign.

“Initial efforts carried out include the removal of vape-related advertisements and promotional signage across Selangor,” she said.

She added that the state also planned to increase youth awareness of the risks and harmful effects of vaping, focusing on secondary school and university students through awareness carnivals, advocacy talks, interactive sessions and lifestyle-based educational activities.

“Campaigns will also provide health clinics with a support hotline for individuals wishing to quit vaping, along with nicotine addiction screening services,” Jamaliah said.
