According to BBC Channel Islands, disposable vapes will be outlawed across the UK as well as Jersey and Guernsey this weekend. In Guernsey, it will become illegal for shops to sell single-use vapes after close of business on Saturday, 31 January 2026. The ban also limits online purchases shipped into the islands.
Guernsey’s Director of Public Health, Dr Nicola Brink, said Customs will conduct checks and will be able to seize any disposable vapes that are imported. The ban does not apply to refillable vapes.
Brink said disposable vapes have evolved in ways that can be particularly attractive to young people, and stressed that they still contain nicotine and can create withdrawal difficulties when users try to quit. She noted that while vapes are known to irritate the lungs, their long-term health effects remain unclear. She added that Guernsey’s disposable vape ban will be complemented by incoming advertising restrictions expected to take effect from 31 March 2026.
She also highlighted safety and environmental concerns: discarded vapes can pose a fire risk due to their batteries, and batteries may leach chemicals into soil and water. Wildlife may also ingest parts of discarded devices.
Retailers in Guernsey said they are running down remaining stocks, while Jersey retailers have until Sunday to sell existing single-use vape inventory as a six-month sell-through period ends.
