UK Parliament Members Establish Cross-Party E-Cigarette Taskforce
British MPs from all political parties form bipartisan e-cigarette group to investigate industry impact and potential legislation.

According to a recent report by Talking Retail, members of parliament from various political parties in the UK are set to form a cross-party group on e-cigarettes, known as the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on e-cigarettes. This group will continue to advocate for e-cigarette related issues within parliament and has initiated an inquiry into the role of e-cigarettes in the UK.


The investigation, which will take place over the next two months, aims to gather evidence and insights from experts in various fields. The group will focus on discussing the industry's responsibility in addressing key issues related to e-cigarettes. Topics of discussion will include public health benefits, environmental and economic impact, as well as proposed government legislation such as flavors, packaging, display, taxes, and potential bans on certain e-cigarette products.


The investigation findings will be compiled into a report that will include a thematic analysis of proposed government measures aimed at better regulating the e-cigarette industry. This includes new e-cigarette taxes set to be implemented from 2026, possible flavor restrictions, and a potential ban on disposable e-cigarettes. The report will also provide practical and legislative recommendations regarding e-cigarettes.


The group's chairperson, Mary Glindon, stated that


The cross-party group on e-cigarettes has always been a focal point for e-cigarette issues within the Parliament, and I am pleased to see this group being reinstated with bipartisan support.


I encourage all those interested in e-cigarettes to respond to the evidence collection initiated by the APPG today regarding the role of e-cigarettes and proposed government regulations.


It is crucial to gather experts from various fields to address key issues related to e-cigarettes. We urge the government to work closely with the APPG in the coming months to ensure that the system we ultimately establish is fair and balanced, without compromising the many benefits of e-cigarettes. I look forward to seeing the results of the investigation, especially in terms of encouraging industry-led improvements and proposing viable legislative recommendations before the upcoming Tobacco and E-cigarette Act.
