Vietnam Proposes Fines for Hiding and Using E-Cigarettes
Vietnam's Health Ministry proposes fines of 1-2 million VND for hiding or using e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

According to a report by the PLO on January 14th, the Vietnamese Ministry of Health has proposed fines of 1 to 2 million Vietnamese dong (equivalent to $40 to $80 USD) for the hiding and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

In Vietnam, there are existing laws and penalties against the production, operation, storage, transportation, and advertising of banned products. However, there are currently no administrative measures in place for hiding and using e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products.

The Ministry of Health is currently drafting a regulation proposing a fine of 1 to 2 million Vietnamese dong (40 to 80 USD) for individuals caught "concealing" or "using" e-cigarettes or heated tobacco products. Repeat offenders will face a fine double the original amount. Additionally, violators may have their e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products confiscated.

According to reports, on November 30, 2024, the Vietnamese National Assembly passed Resolution No. 173/2024/QH15, which prohibits the production, sale, import, storage, transportation, and use of e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and other substances harmful to health starting from 2025. UK PM Andy Burnham Reshapes Vape Retail Rules as Licensing Could Raise Barriers for New Shops
UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham is pushing a high street reform agenda that could give local authorities greater powers over commercial activity, including vape retail. The reforms could involve expanded planning powers and a potential vape retail licensing system, allowing councils to play a larger role in store locations and market access. Cochrane 2026 Update Adds Nine Trials, Keeps High-Certainty Finding That Nicotine E-Cigarettes Improve Quit Rates Over NRT
Cochrane 2026 Update Adds Nine Trials, Keeps High-Certainty Finding That Nicotine E-Cigarettes Improve Quit Rates Over NRT
Cochrane’s 2026 update of its living review on electronic cigarettes for smoking cessation included 80 randomized controlled trials involving 29,861 adult smokers, with nine trials added in this update. The review retained its high-certainty conclusion that nicotine e-cigarettes increase smoking cessation rates compared with nicotine replacement therapy. In absolute terms, about 10 in 100 people using nicotine e-cigarettes may quit smoking for at least six months, compared with about 6 in 100 using NRT. The review found no clear difference in serious adverse event rates between the two groups, while longer-term safety and the relative effectiveness of newer device types remain less certain.
