Washington State Representative Proposes Legislation to Ban Flavored Tobacco Products
Washington State Representative Kristine Reeves announced legislation on Sept. 11 to ban flavored tobacco products statewide, targeting minority and youth communities.

According to a report by Halfwheel on September 12, on Wednesday (the 11th), Washington state Representative Kristine Reeves announced that she will introduce legislation that could lead to a statewide ban on flavored tobacco products.

The core of this legislation is to ban the sale of mint-flavored products. Reeves stated that these products have targeted the African American community for a long time. However, with the emergence of flavored e-cigarette products and other flavored tobacco products targeting young people, Reeves' bill will seek to comprehensively ban all flavored tobacco products.

Reeves mentioned that she has heard some opposition from people who believe that the ban will lead to black market sales, but she responded that now is the time to stand up for communities and young people who are being targeted by tobacco companies.

At present, the bill has not been submitted to the Washington State Legislature, which begins on January 13, 2025.
