Brazil Implements Ban on E-cigarettes and Offers Free Treatment
Brazil bans production, import, sale, distribution, storage, transport, and advertising of e-cigarettes. Free treatment plans provided by national health system.

According to a report by Bonde on April 29, the Brazilian National Health Surveillance Agency (Anvisa) has implemented a ban on the production, importation, sale, distribution, storage, transportation, and promotion of e-cigarettes.

In order to comply with this ban, Rejane Cristina, head of the smoking control division at the Ministry of Health, emphasized that the Brazilian National Health System (SUS) will provide free treatment programs utilizing cognitive behavioral therapy, support materials, and when appropriate, Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) medication including patches, gum, and non-nicotine treatments such as bupropion.

There are treatment methods available, but people need to understand that they have a chemical dependence. We understand the difficulty of seeking treatment, but quitting smoking at any time will bring benefits.

The survey covered 49,879 men and women aged 20 to 69 nationwide. It found that around 40% of respondents cumulatively indicated they may consider quitting when a pack reaches ¥600 (approximately US$4.1), while nearly 90% expressed potential quitting intentions at a ¥1,000 (approximately US$6.8) price level. The survey also found significant differences by income level, with lower-income respondents showing greater sensitivity to price increases.

UAE Sets Dh1-Per-ml Minimum Excise Price for Vape Liquids From Sept. 1 While Keeping 100% Tax Rate
The UAE Ministry of Finance will introduce a minimum excise price for e-liquids used in vaping and electronic smoking devices from September 1, 2026. The minimum excise price will be set at AED 1 per millilitre. The existing 100% excise tax rate will continue to apply to tobacco and electronic smoking products. The measure changes the minimum taxable base rather than the tax rate, with the UAE government saying it aims to establish unified tax standards, improve market compliance and prevent pricing loopholes.
