Controversy Surrounding E-Cigarette Use in Colombian Parliament Members
Colombian congressman Cathy Juvinao criticized for using e-cigarette during healthcare reform debate, drawing response from President Petro.

According to El Pais on December 22nd, Colombian Congressman Cathy Juvinao sparked widespread criticism for using an e-cigarette during a debate on healthcare reform. President Petro also shared his views on the matter.

He reposted this news on social platform X and commented, "Many scientific associations are calling for a ban on these smoking devices. E-cigarettes can make water enter the lungs, potentially leading to death. In the preventive health system, educating students on healthy habits at school is an important tool to ensure a good life.


According to reports, on May 15th, President Gustavo Petro signed Bill 2354, which establishes regulations for the use and sale of e-cigarettes in the country of Colombia. The new law prohibits the use of e-cigarettes in enclosed areas of workplaces and/or public spaces.
