New Law in Colombia Restricts E-Cigarettes to Protect Youth

Colombian Congress finally approves e-cigarette regulation after four heated debates, aiming to protect youth from widespread use.

According to Wradio, after four intense debates, the Colombian House of Representatives has finally approved a bill regulating e-cigarettes. The initiative was previously led by Senators Norma Hurtado and José David Name and had faced several unsuccessful attempts.

As e-cigarettes become increasingly popular in society, senators are concerned that these products will eventually be widely used by young people. The bill has been revised to amend the "Anti-Tobacco Act," subjecting e-cigarettes to regulations similar to traditional cigarettes, including restrictions on advertising and smoking in specific locations.

In addition, the bill also proposes other detailed regulatory requirements. From the date of its publication, the use of e-cigarettes or other vapor products will be prohibited on college campuses, sports advertising related to these products will also be banned, and packaging for these products must include clear warnings about health risks.

Currently, the bill still needs to undergo mediation before being submitted for approval by the president.

NYS Youth Tobacco Use Down 29% Since 2022, Lowest Since 2000

According to the New York State Department of Health’s latest StatShot (Vol.17, #2025-1), high school tobacco product use in 2024 fell to 17.0%, the lowest rate since 2000, marking a 29% decline from 2022. Czech Republic to Tighten E-Cigarette Rules in December, Ban Candy Flavours and Cannabinoids

Czech Republic will tighten regulations on the sale and labelling of e-cigarettes from December. Manufacturers will have seven months to sell existing stock, after which candy-flavoured or cannabinoid-containing e-cigarettes will be banned. A survey by the National Institute of Public Health (SZÚ) found that nearly 14% of the population used e-cigarettes in 2024 — almost triple the rate five years earlier.
