Hong Kong Authorities Seize Illegal E-cigarette Products Worth $43,400
Hong Kong authorities seized over HK$43,400 worth of illegal e-cigarette products in a crackdown, the largest since smoking ban alternatives.

According to a report by Hong Kong media outlet Dimsum Daily on May 7th, the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Office of the Department of Health in China Hong Kong recently seized illegal e-cigarette products worth over 43,400 Hong Kong dollars in a recent operation. The media outlet stated that this is the largest seizure of e-cigarette products since the ban on alternative smoking products took effect in late April 2022.

Recently, the department responded to complaints about a counselor at a school in Yuen Long. The counselor alleged that students were smoking e-cigarettes on campus. Following an investigation, police conducted a raid on a clothing store located in Yuen Long's Yuen Long Ying Cheng and discovered a large quantity of e-cigarette pods containing cannabis or narcotic substances, with a market value exceeding 43,400 Hong Kong dollars. Additionally, a 19-year-old female store assistant was arrested.

According to reports, the department gathered information through extensive monitoring of students and confirmed that a clothing store that has been in operation for a year and a half is suspected of fraudulent sales. Undercover personnel disguised as potential buyers worked with law enforcement to arrest the suspects. Authorities seized 15 e-cigarette devices (valued at approximately 300 Hong Kong dollars each), 170 boxes of pods (each box containing 3 pods valued at 30 Hong Kong dollars each), and 42 capsules containing illegal substances (valued at approximately 400 Hong Kong dollars each).
