Indonesia Implements Taxation on E-Cigarettes Starting in 2024

Indonesia's Ministry of Finance releases a regulation to impose taxes on e-cigarettes starting from January 1, 2024.

According to a report by Liputan6.com on January 4th, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) has issued Minister of Finance Regulation (PMK) No. 143/PMK/2023. This regulation covers the procedures for the imposition, deduction, and payment of taxes on e-cigarettes. Starting from January 1, 2024, e-cigarettes will be officially subjected to taxation.

Luky Alfirman, Director of Fiscal Balance at the Indonesian Ministry of Finance, has revealed that the government's implementation of e-cigarette taxes is aimed at ensuring equal treatment for businesses.

According to reports, the Indonesian government has been implementing taxes on traditional tobacco products since 2014. In response to the rapid growth of e-cigarettes, the government has eventually decided to impose taxes on these types of tobacco products as well.
