According to Republika on January 16, the Indonesian Ministry of Health stated that the detailed rules for the implementation of Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024, which is related to the Health Law No. 17 of 2023, are still being drafted. This includes regulations on health warnings with warning symbols and the prohibition of cigarette sales near schools.

Siti Nadia Tarmizi, Director of the Chronic Disease Prevention and Control Department at the Ministry of Health, stated during a virtual meeting in Jakarta that they are still gathering feedback from the government and the public regarding health warnings with warning labels to ensure there is enough time for feedback and adjustments.

Nadia stated that various specific regulations need to be clarified, such as restrictions on nicotine and tar, as well as specifying which substances in tobacco cannot be used as additives. As for the measure prohibiting the sale of cigarettes within 200 meters of schools or children's playgrounds, it will continue to coordinate the implementation of details as it is being enforced in various locations.

The Director of Legal Products at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Imelda, has stated that the implementation of Presidential Regulation No. 28 requires clear terms, rules, and sanctions. She emphasized the importance of researchers discussing technical implementation details with relevant departments to ensure effective enforcement by local governments.
