Large-scale e-cigarette crackdown in Tver region by law enforcement

Authorities in Tver, Russia cracked down on e-cigarette sales with a large-scale operation, seizing over 3800 suspect products.

According to Tver-news on February 6th, the Economic Security and Anti-Corruption Administration of Tver Region, Russia, in conjunction with the City Economic Security Department, recently conducted a large-scale raid on e-cigarette sales points in the regional center.

During this inspection operation, the police conducted detailed inspections on 6 stores and discovered and confiscated 3814 suspicious e-cigarette products that did not have mandatory labeling or coding. The batch of goods, suspected to be counterfeit products, has been sent to an appraisal center for further investigation. Preliminary estimates suggest that the value of these confiscated goods exceeds 4.5 million rubles (46,000 US dollars).

Currently, law enforcement agencies are discussing whether to initiate criminal proceedings based on Article 171.1, paragraph 4 of the Russian Federation Criminal Code. This article specifies the responsibilities related to the production, purchase, storage, transportation, or sale of products that are not labeled in accordance with Russian legal requirements.
