Northwest England's Call for Stronger Regulations on E-Cigarettes

The Northamptonshire County Council passed a motion urging the government to strengthen regulations on e-cigarette control.

The council of Northamptonshire County in northwest England has passed a motion calling on the government to strengthen regulations on e-cigarettes. Over the past six months, the county's trading standards team has seized 5,000 illegal e-cigarettes and is developing a plan to crack down on addictive e-cigarettes popular among children. Recent government statistics reveal that approximately 10% of children aged 11 to 15 in the country use e-cigarettes.

The committee overwhelmingly passed a motion, calling on the committee to write to the Minister of Health and Social Care, urging for "stricter restrictions on the marketing and supply of e-cigarette products to underage children".

According to Member of Parliament Catherine Russell, she expressed her satisfaction with the government's serious approach to the issue of youth vaping.

UK Government Officially Confirms Vaping Products Duty and Stamps Scheme, Effective October 2026

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has officially confirmed that the UK will implement a Vaping Products Duty (VPD) and Vaping Duty Stamps (VDS) scheme from October 1, 2026. The duty will apply to all vaping liquids at a flat rate of £2.20 per 10ml. Businesses must register for approval starting April 1, 2026. The stamps scheme will take effect in October 2026 with a six-month grace period, after which, from April 2027, unstamped products will be prohibited from sale.
