Public consultation on stricter tobacco control measures in Spain
Spanish Health Ministry seeks public feedback on proposed law to expand smoke-free areas and restrict tobacco consumption and advertising.

According to a report by Infobae on July 17th, the Spanish Ministry of Health has publicly solicited opinions on a draft law aimed at expanding smoke-free areas and implementing stricter restrictions on the sale, consumption, and advertising of tobacco products.


The Ministry of Health stated in a press release that the public as well as various organizations and associations can submit feedback, suggestions, or opinions on the draft legislation by August 15th.


The draft law reform No. 28/2005 on measures to combat tobacco consumption aligns with the Ministerial Council's approval of the "Comprehensive Tobacco Control Plan 2024-27" on April 30 this year. The proposed regulatory changes by the health department include three measures: promoting health and smoke-free spaces in communities and social environments, improving tobacco and related product advertising, promotions, and sponsorships, and regulating restrictions on the sale and consumption systems of e-cigarettes and herbal products containing or not containing nicotine.
