Russian State Duma Considers Ban on Sale of E-Cigarettes

Russian State Duma may consider bipartisan bill to ban e-cigarettes nationwide, citing potential health risks including new disease similar to COVID-19.

According to a report by Eadaily on August 30th, the Russian State Duma may consider a bipartisan bill during its autumn session that aims to completely ban the sale of e-cigarettes in Russia.

This information was revealed by Yaroslav Nilov, chairman of the State Duma's Committee on Social Policy and member of the LDPR, one of the drafters of the bill.

Previously, the Russian Ministry of Health warned that e-cigarettes and e-cigarette liquids may trigger a new disease. The department pointed out that e-cigarettes can cause a disease called EVALI, which presents symptoms similar to the novel coronavirus and is due to acute lung injury caused by the use of e-cigarettes.

Nilovf stated that

This initiative is bipartisan, and we are hopeful that it will be discussed this fall.

He added that it is necessary to legislate to ban e-cigarettes as soon as possible before they become fully integrated into people's daily lives.
