Expansion of Smart Smoking Rooms in Seoul's Dong District
Seoul's Dongbu District to expand number of smart smoking rooms to 9 by end of May, aiming for 17 total by year's end.

According to South Korean media outlet "NEWS 1" on May 21st, the Seoul City Dong District plans to expand the number of smart smoking rooms to 9 in the first half of this year. Currently, there are 7 rooms in operation, with an additional 2 rooms to be added by the end of this month.

To address the increasingly serious environmental issues, the East District is expected to set up 8 more intelligent smoking rooms in the second half of the year, bringing the total number of intelligent smoking rooms to 17 by the end of this year.

These smoking rooms were first installed by the East District of the city in early November last year. They are designed as enclosed spaces with negative pressure devices to ensure that smoke does not leak out. The indoor air is constantly refreshed and the smoke is expelled through a purification system. Cigarette butts are automatically burned and crushed before being thermally treated to achieve recycling.

According to statistics from the district, the smoking room located behind Exit 6 of Wangzi Station has over 3,000 users per day. Since the establishment of the smoking room, complaints related to smoking have significantly decreased. A survey conducted last month showed that 86% of people were satisfied with the current facilities.

East district chief Jung Won-O stated, "I will do my best to achieve a smart, inclusive city where everyone can share respect and happiness.

Iowa E-Cigarette Law Challenged: Industry Claims New Rules Will Destroy the Industry and Violate FDA Enforcement Discretion
Iowa E-Cigarette Law Challenged: Industry Claims New Rules Will Destroy the Industry and Violate FDA Enforcement Discretion
E-cigarette sellers and buyers asked the Eighth Circuit Court to keep blocking Iowa's HF 2677 bill. The bill would make all e-cigarettes sold in Iowa get FDA approval. They say the federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act blocks this law, as it steps on FDA's toes by adding penalties where FDA didn't act. If the bill goes through, businesses might close and people could lose tools to quit smoking.
