Health Department seizes 335 e-cigarettes worth 1.2 million USD
Indian Health & Family Welfare Department seized 335 e-cigarettes worth $12k from a local store for violating PECA.

According to a report by Tribune India on October 10th, the Department of Health & Family Welfare in India seized 335 e-cigarettes from a local tobacco shop, estimated to have a retail value of 1 million rupees (12,000 USD).


The confiscated e-cigarettes have been banned for sale according to articles 4 and 5 of the 2019 Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act (PECA) and have been handed over to the 19th District Police Department. In addition, the task force also seized a batch of imported cigarettes without purchase records and lacking the necessary markings required by section 6A. The department and the Legal Metrology Department have respectively imposed fines of 10,000 rupees ($120) and 5,000 rupees ($60) on the store.
