Young Dutch E-cigarette Users Unaware of Nicotine
Nearly 40% of young e-cigarette users in the Netherlands unaware of nicotine content, according to a study.

Key points:

1. A study has found that nearly 40% of young e-cigarette users in the Netherlands are unaware of whether their products contain nicotine.

2. Only 28% of monthly vapers reported feeling addicted, compared to 50% of  cigarette smokers.

2Firsts, reporting from Shenzhen - A report by the Dutch Trimbos Institute on March 11 found that nearly 40% of young people who use e-cigarettes monthly are unaware whether their device contains nicotine, and more than two-thirds of the participants did not believe they were addicted.

The study surveyed young people in the Netherlands aged 12 to 25 who use e-cigarettes at least once a month.

The data from NL Time also indicated that young people feel less dependent on e-cigarettes than traditional cigarettes. Among monthly e-cigarette users, 28% said they felt addicted, compared with 50% of cigarette smokers.

Esther Croes, a tobacco expert at the Trimbos Institute, said:

"Young people seem less aware of the nicotine in vapes. This is a serious issue because once addicted, it is very difficult to quit."

The study also found that many respondents cited the flavors of e-cigarettes as the primary reason for starting to use them, with social influence and curiosity also playing significant roles.

Vapesourcing, a leading U.S. vape retailer, has announced it will no longer supply flavored nicotine products to California and Massachusetts.
Due to local regulations, leading U.S. vape retailer Vape Sourcing has stopped shipping flavored nicotine products to California and Massachusetts. This is because California is implementing a "flavor ban," while Massachusetts already banned flavored tobacco and vapes in 2019. Customers in these states can still buy unflavored or non-nicotine products.
