Singapore Authorities Seize Illegal E-Cigarettes Worth $9,000
Singapore authorities seize over $17,000 worth of e-cigarettes and accessories in crackdown on illegal sales.

According to a report from Singapore's Lianhe Zaobao on December 17th, the Singapore Health Sciences Authority conducted a surprise operation and seized e-cigarettes and related accessories with a market value of approximately 17,000 Singapore dollars (approximately 90,000 Chinese yuan). The 36-year-old man involved is currently under investigation by the Health Sciences Authority for allegedly selling e-cigarettes on the Telegram platform and has been arrested.

According to reports, the Health Science Bureau conducted a raid on December 12th, following the news of e-cigarette sales activities in Block 7, Cai Cuogang. The authorities searched the home of the individuals involved and seized a total of over 1,000 e-cigarettes and related accessories. The estimated market value of these items is believed to exceed SGD 17,000.

The Singapore government has shown a firm stance in the strict supervision and control of illegal activities involving the sale of e-cigarettes and other related products. Individuals who violate tobacco regulations will face severe penalties. According to the law, importing, distributing, or selling e-cigarettes and their accessories is considered illegal. First-time offenders may be fined up to $10,000 SGD, imprisoned for a maximum of six months, or both. Repeat offenders may face a fine of up to $20,000 SGD, imprisonment for up to 12 months, or both.

Individuals who possess, use, or purchase e-cigarettes may also face legal penalties and potential fines of up to 2000 Singapore dollars.

Canada Considers Easing Pharmacy-Only Nicotine Pouch Sales Rules, Potentially Reopening Convenience Store Channel
Canada's federal government is considering changes to current restrictions on where nicotine pouches can be sold, potentially allowing authorized products to return to convenience stores and other general retail channels, although no decision has been made. Since 2024, emerging nicotine replacement therapy products such as nicotine pouches have been largely restricted to behind-the-counter pharmacy sales. Health Canada, meanwhile, continues to recall unauthorized and higher-strength nicotine pouches, indicating that the current discussion concerns retail access for authorized products rather than a broad relaxation of nicotine pouch regulation.
